The town of Nightfall was named for its majestic sunsets, or so they say, but fact is, once the sun goes down, there's a whole other side to the town that most folks never get to see. It's a side that the folks who have seen don't tend to talk about much either, at least not to outsiders…
In 1846, Medical Doctor and Psychologist Colonel Jeremiah Hyde founded El Asilo Albuquerque para Permanentemente Insano (The Albuquerque Asylum for the Perpetually Insane) in the foothills of the Sandia Mountains . It was the Wild West's answer to supervised care for the critically insane.
Ten years later, the facility was taken over by the Army of the United States and they used it as a research institution to study psychological effects of war on the human mind. Colonel Hyde ran the institution on behalf of the U.S. Government. Soon afterwards the Colonel believed that he could produce a superior soldier by injecting a specialized embalming fluid into the brain. This enabled the mind of the soldier to operate even if the attached body showed no signs of life. Secretly, he continued experiments in asylum's laboratory, away from the prying eyes of the military.
Meanwhile, the institution grew to proportions requiring a town to support it. The town was named Nightfall for its beautiful sunsets.
Nightfall's townspeople prospered well from the Institute, but all who worked there signed oaths of secrecy with the government. So much knowledge about mental breaking points was discovered that it was thought to be too dangerous to allow foreign interests to access the government's findings.
During the Civil War, the Colonel was able to gather hundreds of "volunteers", contributing to his demented research. Despite this, the army withdrew its funding and personnel two years later, determining that the research was too dangerous to pursue any further.
The lack of funding did not hinder Hyde. He was certain that his research could be lucrative if one small problem could be corrected. It seemed that his procedure had a bad habit of killing the person it was performed on. Determined to carry his project further, Hyde dabbled into the black arts to find a solution and that is when odd things began to occur. |

An odd fog descended upon the town nightly and the population of Nightfall dwindled as its residents mysteriously vanished. Screams of terror often filled the night air as the remaining residents locked themselves inside their homes. Still, they remained silent, making themselves apart of the crime. Hyde tried to control the developing insanity in Nightfall, however, some believe he went mad himself. Legends tell of countless horrors wrought by his hand.
Then on a moonless night, it happened. Nightfall was struck by a rogue earthquake and descended into the earth in a torment of fire and brimstone taking Hyde and a 1000 damned souls of the town with it.
Legends say that Nightfall briefly rises from the Sandia Foothills every year in October when the veil that separates the land of the living and the land of the dead is at its thinnest.
Can you solve the mystery of Nightfall?
Caution must be taken when visiting Nightfall, for there are many dangers that lurk in this unforgiving town…
